       Australian Studies Centre of Xuzhou Normal University was established in 1993, director of the centre is Professor Qiusheng ZHANG, vice-president of the association of Australian Studies in China. The member of the centre includes seven professors, six associate professors, seven doctors and twenty masters. They are engaged in the researches on history, politics, economy, culture, external relations and language of Australia. There have been several members visited the Universities and institutes such as the University of Sydney, the Australian National University, La Trobe University, University of Queensland for education and academic exchange.


  The mainly has published works written by the members of the centre includes: A Short History of Australia,History of Overseas Chinese in Australia,New Views on Sino-Foreign Relations,Dictionary of Australian Special Terms,Guide to the World States: Australia,Australia and Globalization,History of Australian-Asia Relations: 1940-1995, and more than one hundred articles have published in the World History, World Ethno-National, Contemporary International Relations, History Files, Studies of Asia-Pacific, Historical Monthly(Taiwan), Chinese Culture Monthly(Australia) and other academic journals at home and abroad.

 

  The members of the centre have undertaken the following projects in recent years, the Research on Australia and Asia Relations, Issues on the Sino-Australian Relationships and Chinese Immigrants after the Second World War ( the fifth planning subjects of Jiangsu Province); Issues on the Evolution of Australian Immigration Policy to China and Chinese New Immigrants, the Research on the Trends of Overseas Chinese of Oceania and South Pacific in the Next 5-10 years ( the project of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council); Issues on the Evolution of Australian Immigration Policy to China and Chinese New Immigrants ( the project of Ministry of Education); Guide to the World Stares: Australia ( the project of Institution of World History, CASS) and several projects funded by ACC. The projects of the ACC: the “Soft Power” of Australia and International Relations in Contemporary Asia-Pacific Region, A Survey and Evaluation of the Related Australian Contents in the world history textbooks and teaching in Chinese universities and colleges, Sister Province/city and Sino-Australian Relationships, The Marine Rights and Interest of Australia, Australia and Globalization, Australian National Culture Transformation in the Process of Globalization and its Impact on Sino-Australian Relationships and so on.  

 

  The centre successfully hosted the Ninth International Conference of Chinese Australian Studies in 2004 and the “Nation-Station in the Process of World History” symposium in 2008, and edited “Australia and Southeast Asia” column (2007\2009\2010) in the Southeast Asia Research Bulletin of Jiangsu Province. There have been nine misters’ research projects directed by the members of the centre founded by the ACC, and five masters went to the University of Sydney for research; two of the masters got the award of postgraduate innovation projects of Jiangsu Province.
